A Billionaire BWWM Romance 4: The Proposal Page 7
*****
Wednesday morning was chaotic. Dana and Meg had slept over at Julie’s place and they may have had one too many margaritas. By the time Julie woke up, it was already ten. She got out of bed and took a shower before she walked to the kitchen where Meg had prepared a full breakfast. She and Dana didn’t even look half as bad as she felt.
“Good morning, sleepy head,” Dana said in cheerful voice. Julie closed her eyes and put her hands over her ears.
“Please, not too loud,” she grumbled. Meg laughed.
“Seriously, you need to get out more,” she laughed.
“What do you mean? Weren’t you here when we downed three pitchers of margaritas?” Julie asked as she sat down.
“I did tell you to stay hydrated, but you wouldn’t listen,” Meg said as she put a plate in front of her.
“Eggs? I feel like I am going to be sick,” Julie said, pushing it away.
“Not just any eggs. Mexican delight, they are spicy and really good,” Dana said as she pushed the plate back in front of Julie. “It’s hangover food. Got me through college frat parties,” she added.
“Besides, we need to get going in an hour’s time,” Meg said. Julie looked at her and shook her head.
“The mini-cruise?” Dana asked. “Did you forget?” Julie shook her head and then rested her chin on her hand.
“Chop, chop. You got to hustle,” Meg said as she gave her a glass of fresh pineapple juice. Julie took one bite of her eggs and looked up
“These are really good,” she admitted.
“Told you. That’s my grandmother’s recipe. She is a genius,” Dana said. Julie took another bite and looked at her boss.
“Wait, you slept over? What did your husband say?” Julie asked.
“Yeah, he’s always been the one picking you up before girls night is over,” Meg said.
“He’s out of town for the week. He traveled on Monday and we thought traveling back today and then on Friday would be a waste of money,” Dana said. “So instead of falling asleep to CNN I decided to have drinks instead. Besides, I couldn’t drive home after the third drink,” she added with a smile. Julie took another bite of her eggs and then looked at the two.
“I will be parting with two dresses today, won’t I?” she asked.
“Speaking of which, it’s about time we decided on what we’re wearing,” Dana said as she walked out of the kitchen pulling Julie as she did.
“Wait, I’m not done yet,” Julie protested.
“I got it,” Meg said as she carried the plate and glass to Julie’s bedroom. “Let me just start by saying I am wearing your blue maxi dress. Julie shrugged and took the glass from Meg.
“And I want the black and white bandage dress,” Dana said. “What are you wearing?” she asked Julie, who was taking her last bite. Julie shrugged.
“I know exactly what to wear,” she said with a smile.
She knew she had made the right decision when she saw how Steven reacted to seeing her in the pink strapless maxi dress with a front thigh high slit. She had her hair down and wore a pair of silver colored strapped heels to match.
“You look spectacular,” Steven whispered in her ear.
You don’t look so bad yourself,” she said as she looked at Steven who wore gray pinstriped pants and a blue shirt.
“Come with me,” he said leading her out of the party area.
“We are not having sex. I might look this good, but I am actually hungover,” Julie said. Steven laughed.
“What did you do last night?” he asked.
“Three words. Dana, Meg and cocktails,” she said as they went down the boat stairs. Steven laughed. “Baby, what is this? We can’t just bail on our own party,” she argued as they walked to the dock.
“We’re not bailing. I’ve got something to show you,” he said as they stopped facing the boat. “I wanted to get something for you, something as beautiful as you, but I just couldn’t get anything. But I found something almost as good.” Julie looked at him and shook her head.
“What do you mean?” she asked. Steven looked up and gave a signal to someone Julie couldn’t see and the red fabric that covered one side of the boat came down. Julie gasped and clasped her hand over her mouth. Her name was on the boat. “What did you do?” she asked in surprise.
“Baby, I want you to meet the Julie. And she’s yours,” he said in a low voice.
“Why?” she gasped.
“Because I love you and no, I didn’t buy you this boat. I have always had it. I just had it refurbished and named after the woman I love,” he said.
“But why? What’s the occasion?” she asked.
“I live everyday thinking of ways to make you smile and one of the things I see in this boat is you and me in our eighties. I hope you like it,” he said. She looked at him and then wrapped her arms around him.
“I love it,” she exclaimed before she kissed him gently. “But I don’t know anything about sailing,” she said when she pulled away.
“Well, that’s up to me and the little boy who will have your eyes,” he said smiling. Julie smiled and shrugged.
“Come on, I bet people are wondering where we are,” she said. He smiled and slipped an arm around her waist as they started walking back into the boat. They had barely got back to the party floor when everyone gasped. Julie looked around and looked at Meg and Dana, who were smiling and her father and grandmother on the other side. Her father had his arm around her Nan who was dabbing her eyes. “What the hell…” she said before she heard Meg’s voice.
“Look up!” She looked up and saw one of those skywriting planes and then she realized why everyone was getting so excited. Right there, on the clear blue sky were the words, Julie, will you marry me?
She gasped and turned to look at Steven who was now down on one knee. “What are you doing?” she wanted to say, but her voice was gone.
“Julie, when I met you I saw something in you that I hadn’t seen in anyone and I knew that I wanted you in my life. And I just told you that I want to grow old with you. I want to have those beautiful babies we talked about and I want to have them with you. So, Julie Parker, will you make me the proudest man in the world by being my wife?” he asked. Julie had a tear threatening to fall. She could feel her heart beating fast. Even though she had said a lot about marriage, the truth was that she knew things would be different with Steven. She nodded and smiled as a tear rolled down her cheek. Steven slipped the ring on her finger and then got up to hug her as the crowd applauded. When he pulled away, he looked into her eyes and smiled. “I love you,” he said.
“I love you too,” she whispered as he brushed her tears off.
